Lessons by instrument
Each lesson has a warm-up, something new and a plan for the week. How long it lasts is your choice with your teacher, not a measure of how fast you will learn.

Piano and keyboard
Piano suits adults who like to see how music is built. You can read notes, follow chords or play by ear, and your teacher shapes the lessons around which you prefer.
Lessons of 30, 45 or 60 minutes
At home: a piano or a keyboard with weighted keys. Ask your teacher before you buy.
Teachers: Jerald Sheridan and Isidora Casares

Guitar, bass and ukulele
Stringed and strummed instruments start with a few chords. Your fingertips will tell you about it for a few weeks, and your teacher plans for that.
Lessons of 30, 45 or 60 minutes
At home: a guitar or ukulele that is set up to play. Ask your teacher before you buy or borrow.
Teacher: Paulette Stegall, with a Sunday ukulele circle

Violin and cello
Bowed strings reward patience. The first weeks are about the bow and the sound it makes, and your teacher is honest about it.
Lessons of 30, 45 or 60 minutes
At home: an instrument of the right size. Ask your teacher before you rent or buy; rental is an extra.
Teacher: Mukul Chatterjee

Voice
Voice lessons start with breath, posture and a range that feels comfortable. A piano sits beside you, and you sing in front of others only when you decide to.
Lessons of 30, 45 or 60 minutes
At home: water, and a quiet corner to practice in. Rest your voice when it is tired.
Teacher: Isidora Casares
Every lesson
A lesson in three parts
A warm-up
A few minutes with something you already know, so your hands, breath and ears are ready.
Something new
One new thing, shown slowly and tried together, so you can practice it alone on your own evenings.
A plan for the week
A short practice, written down, that fits the time you really have.
Formats
What sets the length and the format
Length
Lessons are 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Many adults begin with 30 and move to 45 when a week's practice grows.
Format
Private, shared between two students, or a group circle. Your teacher suggests one at your placement visit.
Our figures
We give you our tuition figures in writing at your placement visit, before you register.
Come in and meet a teacher
A placement visit is a short talk and a first sound with a teacher. Bring nothing. Choose a time below, or call and we will find one.
